Obituary for Christine Margaret Wilson (Forgan)

Christine Margaret Wilson (Forgan)
Born in Stirling, Scotland on June 24th, 1930; died peacefully at home in Port Hope on July 30th, 2017 after a brief illness. Beloved wife of the late Thomas Wilson and dear sister of Isabel Morrison. Much loved mother of Alain (Linda Finnigan) and Aileen (Raymond Chandler) and dearly cherished grandmother of Eleanor and Imogen Wilson and Graeme and Ian Chandler.
Christine was a gifted nursery school teacher, having trained in the Froebel kindergarten method at Jordan Hill College in Glasgow. It was while at her first job in Girvan that she met her future husband, Tommy, a physics teacher. They emigrated to Canada in 1957 where Tommy took up a position at Trinity College School and Christine conducted a nursery school out of their home in Port Britain.
Christine was a long time devoted member of the United Church and of the United Church Women where she played numerous leadership roles. She loved music and the theatre and was a keen participant in productions both at Trinity College School (which her husband usually directed) and at the church and was also a delighted supporter and frequent attendee at concerts and productions in Port Hope, Cobourg and Toronto. She loved to read and the Port Hope Public Library was akin to a second home.
She loved cottage life at Georgian Bay, traveling regularly back to Scotland to visit family and friends, and going on trips to many parts of North America, the UK and Europe. She played a mean game of Scrabble and loved the challenge of a good cryptic crossword.
She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her many friends and family in Port Hope and Scotland.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Azzopardi, the staff of Saint Elizabeth Health Care as well as all the friends and neighbours who were such a tremendous support over the last few weeks.
At Christine’s request, cremation will take place followed by a private family interment.
Friends are invited to a memorial service in celebration of Christine’s life which will be held on Saturday, August 12th, 2017 at 2 PM at New Hope United Church, Toronto Road, Hwy #2, near Port Hope, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation or New Hope United Church would be appreciated and can be received at www.rossfuneralchapel.com.
