Austen, Elizabeth (Betty)
Peacefully at Extendicare Port Hope on Friday February 16th, 2018 in her 92nd year. Elizabeth Wass, beloved wife of the late Lorne Austen. Loving mother of Dan (Andrea), Debbie MacDonell (the late Peter), and Tom (Kelly). Born in Uxbridge to her loving parents, Alice Louise (Cox) and Charles Albert Ernest Wass. Betty moved to Toronto at the young age of 15 and began working at the Toronto Star for many years. She was known as a loving and devoted mother, always willing to roll up her sleaves and help out whenever and wherever it was needed. She was the also the “neighbourhood mom”, always feeding the children milk and cookies. In her retirement, Betty and Lorne spent many winters enjoying the sun of Florida, and also enjoying many family gatherings in Uxbridge. Many summer and fall days were spent “following the hood ornament” exploring and enjoying the back roads of Ontario.

Patience, and a welcoming smile were just some of her many virtues, she will be missed.

Service will be held at Ross Funeral Chapel, 135 Walton St., Port Hope on Tuesday February 27th, 2018 at 7 p.m. with visiting one hour prior.
