Hewson passed away at the age of 78 on June 14, 2018 after a long illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Lynn and parents, Cyrus and Mabel.

Loving father to Danny (Angie), Kent (Joanne), Colin, Craig (Laura) and Keith (Jennifer). He is also survived by his sister Sheilagh, ex-wife Shirley, and grandchildren Eric, Tasha, Evan, Armon and Vanessa. He was predeceased by his wife, Lynn and parents, Cyrus and Mabel.


A graduate in chemistry (BSc and MSc) of McGill University, he was a professor of inorganic chemistry at Bishop’s University for 38 years. His greatest passion was his teaching, and in his final weeks he reflected on many fond memories of his time in the labs and lecture halls of the Johnson Building.

He had a lifelong passion for the Montreal Expos, Canadiens and Alouettes, as well as the BU Football and Basketball Gaiters.

Many thanks to the wonderful staff and residents of Empire Crossing retirement home in Port Hope where he was a very happy resident for the past two years.

A celebration of his life will be held in Bishop’s St. Mark’s Chapel on Tuesday July 3rd at 2pm. Donations in Hewson’s name may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society.
