Obituary for Peter Arnold Harness

Peter Arnold Harness
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Peter Arnold Harness on Thursday June 28, 2018 in his 61st year. Cherished husband of Linda and the most amazing father to Lauren, Emma and Victoria. He will truly be missed by his yellow lab Tucker, with their travels in the truck and alone time on their long walks. Peter will also be missed by his many siblings; Ann, David, Jane Ramsey (Willie), Susan Bickle (John), Elizabeth McBride (Gus), Catherine Mills (Mike), Stephen, Margaret Tomayer (Jeff), Mark (Melissa), Mike (Tracey). Son of the late Morley and Doreen Harness, Peter developed many lasting relationships along the way in both his professional and personal life. He had great joy in getting to know people and it amazed us how often in our travels his path would cross with someone he knew, which led us to delay our departure until he had time to catch up. He was a carpenter by trade and had the privilege to work for Kevin and Kim Hay of Cirrus Management Contracting, as a Superintendent. He truly loved his job and his travels around the province further expanded his relationships, as well as his love for good food and the best places to eat. Peter became inflicted with a lung condition in 2013 which forced him off work for a while to recover, however it wasn’t long before he was back on the road working. In 2015, he was diagnosed with cancer and it devastated us all. Again, he stayed strong and underwent radiation and was off again for a short period of time until he was later diagnosed with a secondary cancer site. During his last cancer treatments, to include extensive chemo therapy, we were fortunate enough to be treated by Dr. Patafio at Sunnybrook Hospital. Their mutual interest in BBQing and smoking meat often had Pete exchanging cooking ideas with him, all the while allowing him to take his mind off the following week of treatments that would be coming his way. Unexpectedly however, Peter had a relapse of his lung condition and was admitted to Sunnybrook ICU where he passed after a short time, with his family holding his hands. We would like to thank the many people that rallied to our side and supported us during this difficult ordeal. Thank you to the many family and friends that came to the hospital to give us support when we needed it and special mention to Dr. Mark Azzopardi who was always there for us when Pete had a medical crisis and I needed guidance. To Karen Rose and Margaret Teunissen who gave me words of encouragement and strength to focus on the coming days, our Desjardins family who supported both Emma and I in hospital and from afar, my brother Mark Robson and his family for being there whenever we needed something, and Peter’s amazing brother Mike for his overnight support at the hospital during Pete’s final day. Most importantly, Justin Davis who spent days and nights with us to support not only Victoria but the family as a whole. We are very blessed to have him in our life along with his parents Marie and Dave Davis and his brother Tyler. Special thank you to Sunnybrook ICU and Dr. Scales and his team for making Peter’s last days with us as comfortable and pain free. While Peter knew the end was near, we are thankful that cancer could not claim another victim.
A celebration of his life will take place at the Harness farm on Saturday July 7, 2018 at 1 pm, 1933 County Rd 2, Port Hope. It will include friendship and food as this is what brought joy to Peter. Bring your chairs, BYOB, a food dish to share but most importantly your stories of Peter and the great adventures you had together ......Your loving wife 💖
