Obituary for Helen Selvig (Beatty)

Selvig, Helen Margurite
January 18th, 1936- June 18th, 2020

Helen Selvig (nee Beatty), lover of elephants, laughter and telling it like it is, left behind her oxygen tank, confusion, and tired body on June 18th, 2020, hoping to be reunited with her great love, Ross Vout, her 10 siblings, and parents Wilford and Sarah Rose Beatty. She is sharing the secret with Ed and Eric, Shari, Michael, Ben, Thore, Marty, Lorenzo, Wayne, Lennie, Laverne, and all those who have gone before.
Helen stayed on this earth as long as she could to continue to love and challenge her children Tom (Michelle) and Crystal (Bernd), and to delight in the achievements and lives of those she loved like her own: Beth Reed, Blake and Eileen Holton, Fenton, Angus, Tait and Zoldy (who do actually have first names, but she never, ever used them).

This feisty grandma-bear leaves a legacy of honesty, integrity and strength for her grandchildren: Evan, Carter, Taya and Caleb, and many, many memories of crazy antics, laughter and shared sorrow with her nieces, nephews and friends: so cherished, but too many to name.

We would like to thank the loving and gentle staff of Mowat House, Extendicare Port Hope, for being her family during the times of Covid, when we could not be with her, and the staff of both Northumberland Hills Hospital, and Roseglen Villiage, who helped our mom wind down from a life so strongly lived.

Friends are invited to call at Ross Funeral Chapel on Thursday, June 25th from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, for visitation. Jeans and casual wear are encouraged, as Helen was not a fan of dressing up for things. Funeral will be held at a later time, to adhere to current provincial restrictions.

Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated, and may be received at www.rossfuneralchapel.com, but little gestures of blooms from Holton Flowers would be gratefully welcomed, as their oldest and fastest delivery person is laid to rest.
