Obituary for Brian Kenneth O'Connor

After a brave and courageous journey, Brian passed peacefully at the Trenton Memorial Hospital on Wednesday March 23, 2022 in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Cathy O'Connor for 56 wonderful years. Brian is the son of the late Daniel O'Connor and Lillian Mangus and step-father Ross MacDermid. Brian is predeceased by his brothers Wayne (Dora), Mike, and Dan (Jenny).

Cathy met Brian in Bradford, ON in March of 1965 and they were married 10 months later. Soon after, they became the parents of Catherine (David Haywood predeceased), Daniel (Pam), Christopher (Cristiann Kannen), and Crystal (Wayne Sinnott). Throughout their journey together, Cathy and Brian had so many wonderful adventures including their time together in Alaska, Ireland and Spain; but one of their most treasured adventures was their time together in Carbonear, Newfoundland. Brian found so much joy in Newfoundland; not only in the people, but those amazing Icebergs and the beauty of the natural landscape. Throughout the years, Brian loved spending time discovering his family tree as well as taking the time to build his collection of Department 56 (Dickens Village). Back in 1976, Brian’s entrepreneurial spirit led the family to start their business in Sudbury, ON. They opened the Pinto Convenience Store on Regent Street which soon became known as the Kwik-Way. Throughout the 23 years in business, Brian ran their business in an unassuming way and treated all who walked through the door with dignity and respect. There is no limit to the number of people who will remember his kind spirit and friendly disposition.

Retirement gave Brian his new title of “Special grandpa” “grumpy” to 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild. For anyone that knew Brian, they would know of the love he had for his dogs; throughout his years, he shared that love with Lady, Mac, Smokey, Casey, Scotty, and Zenith. He will be dearly missed by his best girl Diesel.

A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
