Obituary for Walter Hargrave Jordan

Walter Hargrave Jordan was born on October 5, 1935 in Lindsay, Ontario to parents Jack and Grace Jordan, in later years becoming big brother to Bill (Mary) and Dianne (Hal). As a young man, Walt joined the RCMP and later, the OPP, and proudly wore the uniform of our federal and provincial police forces for some 35 years. Walt loved being a police officer and did his profession proud. His best memories came from being assigned to the OPP Marine Unit in Northumberland Detachment.

Walt called it a successful career with the OPP in 1990, and enjoyed every day of his retirement alongside his devoted wife Mella until God called him home on April 3, 2022. Walt always relied on Mella to see him through life’s challenges, great and small; including the stresses of a policing career, moving to Ontario, and raising two sons! They made it through almost 63 years of marriage together, until Walt lost his fight with a heart that just couldn’t go any farther.

Walt fought like a lion to stay with Mella for as long as possible. He demonstrated the most amazing bravery, courage and strength in battling his heart condition to the bitter end, wryly saying “you’re dead for a long time.” He never gave an inch to heart disease, and lived life on his terms for all of his 86 and a half years.

Mella, sons John and Lorne (Jeannie), his grandchildren, extended family and friends already miss him dearly. All of Walt’s nurses absolutely adored him as he did his best to make them laugh each day, flashing them his badge and telling them his war stories as they patiently listened. Thank you to Walt’s entire healthcare team of super-hero nurses and Dr. Saeidi in the ICU of Northumberland Hills Hospital. You are all so amazing!

As he did with everything, Walt was very clear about his final wishes in a handwritten note that brought both comfort and laughter to his family at this time. We share those words with you knowing they will be appreciated by those who knew him: "I came into this world with nothing and am going out the same way. No fuss, no muss. No wake. No funeral. No fancy wooden coffin. Cremate me and spread my ashes on the family plot. You probably should tell the grave keeper you are doing it but don't let them charge you for digging a hole to put me in. If there is room for my name and dates on the family tombstone, you can do that. If not, don't do anything." This paragraph was classic “Walter Jordan” and will be honoured.

Following cremation there will be a private family celebration of life. If so desired, best wishes via a donation to Northumberland Hills Hospital in Walt's name would be appreciated more than words can ever express and may be received at www.rossfuneralchapel.com.
